Weekend Words of Wisdom | #10

“Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you’re climbing it.” — Andy Rooney —

Do you enjoy the journey or only seek the end?

A journey is intended for us to learn, grow, and experience it – it is not meant to be raced through and forgotten. Too often we only look for the ends and forget that there is a whole playing field in the between the start and the finish line. If you only look at the end, then you miss the important lessons that can be learned during the ‘ride’ to the end. If you find joy in the journey, then the end is simply a byproduct, an end result though not the means to lead, work, and do towards.

So what you should take away from this, is to open your eyes during the journey and find joy and growth in it rather than trying to ‘get it over with’.

“We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.” — Frederick Keong —

Do you count your blessings on a daily basis?

How can one expect to appreciate life in the future if they cannot appreciate life in the present? While our lives may not be the one that we dreamed up of as children, it still is our lives and a blessed one at that. It’s important to remember that our lives are not really in our own hands, they are in God’s hands – therefore, as much as we strive for the earthly things such as materialistic items, fame, and ‘success’ – this is not what God wants us to try to achieve. He desires faith in His son, Jesus Christ. When we pause and truly look around with our eyes wide open, what do you see? For example: Do you see the family and friends that you have to love you regardless? Do you see the responsibilities of caregiving (for animals or humans) as a chore or do you see it in an appreciative and grateful form of knowing that you have the capabilities, strength, and heart to care for others needs?

The point here is not to stop desiring more, bettering ourselves, and achieving even greater things with this life that we have – it is to value and appreciate the current and present-day lives that we do have. Remember, this moment in time will never return – cherish it for in the next second it will become the past.

“Create a clean and peaceful working environment which encourages creativity and positive thinking.” — Joseph Help, Stop Procrastinating: How To Overcome Procrastination —

Change your space to one that is conducive to your productivity and no one else’s. Try placing your favorite art pieces around the room, releasing a peaceful and favorite scent through an essential oil diffuser, listen to your favorite music or background sounds, or paint your workspace a color that encourages you to be productive. Essentially put, if you don’t like it, change it – this goes for more than just your space but also for everything in our lives.

Our space influences our mind.

September is self-care awareness month. In sticking with this, our theme for the month for Weekend Words of Wisdom is positive thinking.

“Being in a positive state of mind is more important than you might think as the mind cannot be creative in a negative state. New ideas, thoughts and inspiration will only take place when the mind is positive.” — Joe Hinchliffe —

We can ultimately change our lives completely through a shift in perspective and a change of attitude. It’s quite simple – if you want to change your external life then change your internal mindset to that of positivity rather than negativity and your life will begin taking on a whole new light.

“Doing interesting work when nobody notices takes patience and belief.”Brian Knapp, Creative Pursuit  —

The whole point of the work that you do – your time that is priceless – is to perform the work that matters the most to you. This may be raising a family, taking care of animals, creating inspirational stories, building a dream home, making a masterpiece, and so on and on, but it has to be for you to begin with before it’s about others – even if others are involved. Your passion is derived from a deep drive to do what brings about the most joyous and satisfactory things – but that passion is about you, it’s about achieving your inner desire, and it’s what delivers motivation. Motivation comes from inside and that passion is the cog in the wheel. So ask yourself – do you do the work for yourself or for others? Is this the interesting work that your life’s purpose depends on? If the answer is no, then when will you do that interesting work?

Simply put, does the audience arrive at a concert hall unknowing what to expect or does the audience arrive with an idea in mind before it ever begins? You need to lay the groundwork for the idea before the audience arrives, don’t expect them to arrive at an empty hall – be ready for them when they show up!

“It takes time and patience, but if you develop the habit of using forceful, positive Self-Talk rebuttals to your negative Mind Chatter you will soon see a shift in your Mind Chatter, how you feel and what you do.” — Mark Snyder, Developing Good Habits —

Through patience, we can achieve, do, and become great. In order to be great, you need to change your inner dialogue from one of negativity and put-downs, defeat and fear, to one of positivity, encouragement, belief, faith, and hope. Changing one’s inner dialogue will not happen overnight, it will take some time. Just think, did that negative inner dialogue happen overnight or did it slowly creep up and overshadow your thoughts, beliefs, and life? It took some time to become, therefore, it will take some time to overcome. But through persistence, patience, and belief that positive things are happening, that the change you desire is occurring, then you will become exactly what you want to be in the way that you want to.

One of the paradoxes of life is that being impatient often makes it harder to achieve something. As with any skill, you get better at manifesting the more you practice. —Simon Foster, Manifesting Change: How to Manifest Change, Love, Abundance and Prosperity —

Patience brings achievement whereas impatience leads to loss. This is a loss in skill, loss in quality, loss of money, loss in the what-if, and loss of time.

Practice patience if you want to achieve great things in your life.

“Have the courage to live a life true to yourself, not the life others expect of you.” – Unknown

Being courageous to a life true to yourself means living out your true intended purpose. If you fail yourself short then who are you living for – who are you living a life for if not for yourself? Our lives are one and only with a finite amount of time. Do you want to be living the life that others dream up for you or do you want to be living the life you were intended to – one full of purpose, passion, and satisfaction? Ask yourselves these questions and seek out the answers. If you’re not happy with something or the direction in life that you are taking then be courageous to change it in the right direction, in your direction. Be your own guide and life the life of your dreams!

Take the leap.

It may be a leap of faith, full of fear, doubts, and unknown – but what do you have to lose aside from never knowing.

I have made huge mistakes in life, just like anyone else, but what became of those huge mistakes? They were opportunities waiting in disguise. I was so caught up in thinking that I knew best that I didn’t let God and His universe guide me towards the right path, and what did I encounter? I encountered challenges, fear, self-doubt, obstacles that were over-encompassing – for every step forward I made three backward – why? Because I was not on the right path. But when I stopped trying to guide my life and let fear, doubts, and the unknown go, I landed on the right path – one better than I ever dreamt, imagined or planned – one that is right for me.

So my advice, take the leap. Even if you fail, at least you tried and you can look back on the events and experiences knowing that you gave it your all and you did not let yourself down. Remember that failure in one thing is not the end of the world, but rather a redirecting opportunity for something much greater.

“IN THE END… We only regret the chances we didn’t take, the relationships we were afraid to have, and the decisions we waited too long to make.”

Lewis Carroll

Every day you should use your time wisely – you should not waste but work towards your purpose. In order to give your life a meaning, you must find it through your journey – this means that a journey spent void of action is one not fully explored, but one spent filled with exploration through work in the trajectory of ultimate goals despite obstacles is one full of meaning, joy, wonder, and purpose. Focus on the end result but don’t forget to enjoy the journey along the way.
